Stamford

Bridge...

The battle took place on

September 25 , 1066 at

Stamford Bridge, Yorkshire

Between the Saxons under Harold, King of England vs. Norwegians under Harald Hardrada and Earl Tostig

Harold had marched his men all the way from London, reached Stamford Bridge, beat the Vikings and then dashed off down to Hastings to try and fight off the Normans in the Battle of Hastings 1066  [which he lost]

Therefore the  course of English History was changed three times in about as many days !

Down near the bridge

where the battle took place

a very beautiful -

and peaceful place now

A very special feeling to stand on this

historic spot

Ghosts of the battle seem at hand and the visitors footprints

simulate the soldiers

of the past

Harold's Primrose !

This charming display

is in the town centre

A recruit for Harold ???

Thankfully the local pub had good food

and we recovered from our long walk up and down on the Bridge

- at least we did not have to march to London and back!
