 St. Petersburg 'HIGHLIGHTS'

                 ...   11th June 2007

The morning started when we looked

out of the porthole

and saw the Port of St. Petersburg -

HUGE, busy and exciting -

with the prospect of our day ahead...

and very early we set off from the Saga Ruby

on board our coach .....into the City of St. Petersburg

and very soon we  had stopped off in a square

where we  were able to take lots of photographs

(this happened throughout the day

and was very good  ....

Large, impressive (THE PLACE of course!)

and a little frightening  ...  but exciting -

we were HERE !

plus ...

Almost immediately, in this square, we  came upon little stalls selling souvenirs of all kinds

including Russian dolls, bells, boxes, ..      LOVELY !

as we travelled around

there were magnificent, huge and ornate buildings

everywhere you looked ...

and in due course we arrived at the waterfront

here is Sue  with

The Hermitage behind her

just across the water

and just along the waterfront we were able to see the world famous Cruiser 'Aurora'

Here is Aurora - (to read all about this ship click the pic above)                                  Sue - with  Cruiser that began the Russian Revolution

and paid it a salute !

After we boarded our coach again we then spent some more time

travelling around this spectacular City - as you can see below ...

As you can see in this last thumbnail -

we then came to the

Spilled Blood Cathedral ...

This Cathedral is opposite a beautiful park,

with a long crescent of railings

and gateways set with "Victorian" tiles

Nearby to the Cathedral were more

sightseeing places, and to the left

this bigger market -

 very expensive

but full of great things

We had plenty of time

to wander around

and see everything...

and Dusty found this memorial plaque which is really interesting - it is a tribute to WWII

Finally, we boarded our coach again for the journey back to the Saga Ruby ...

to rest up ready for

our evening visit to THE BALLET

a little Russian sparrow

saying "farewell"

to us...
