1. Marina, heading North up the Red towards the Locks |
2. Canadian Geese on the move. There are thousands of
them in flying about right now.
Not sure why , perhaps foretelling an early winter.
3. This is one of the more modest homes along that
stretch of the river. |
4. Me pretending to fish, I am afraid not much fishing
got done that day |
5. ?Trying the porta potty from Rob's work out?[ one of
his little jokes]
...as
if !

6.
We had binoculars with us, other people could have them
too.
7. We passed an old pioneer church, called St. Andrew's
on the Red.
They still have services there in the summer and there
are buffalo hides on a lot of the pews .
.
8. Locks |
9. More Locks.
Rob intends to go through one of these days but
claims he isn't quite ready yet! |
9. Skinners is a favourite hot dog and hamburger joint
that Winnipeggers love to go to
10. We are heading back down river now to the centre of
the city. From the locks to the Forks (centre of Winnipeg) is
about 25 - 29 km. |
After a couple of shots of us |

Then we pass Kildonian Park, not far from my
house. Through the trees you can get a glimpse of an outdoor
theatre called Rainbow Stage. Another place I didn't get to
this summer. They were doing Peter Pan.
The tall pointy thing on the bridge is a restaurant. It
is a franchise that was started by Berton Cummings a Winnipeg
boy that was popular in Canada in the 70's. He sang with
Backman Turner Over-Drive, also from Winnipeg. One hit you
might remember was "American Woman. The structure itself cause
a big hullabaloo . The last mayor of Winnipeg is Gay and of
course a lot of snide remarks about the shape of it. Actually I
like to go there it is very inexpensive and the view is great.
They claim the restaurant has the most expensive toilet in the
city. I just bet being up on the bridge like that .
Rob and I docked at the Forks and walked around a bit.
One picture you will see me, Louis Reil and the Golden Boy on
top of the Leg building. Louis Reil is know as the father of
Manitoba and was hanged for his effort. Strangely enough
my English great grandfather came out from N.S. to fight in the
Reil Rebellion.
About five years ago they had Manitoba's Golden Boy down
to restore it so I went to see it and watched them raise it up
again. It was made in France, perhaps that is why it is not so
well endowed, in the you- know- where dept. |
