Our girly days out ...
can be just
'MEGA GREAT' !

|
 |
|

Firstly, in May 2010
we had a day trip to
LOS MILLARES |
A Chalcolithic
prehistoric town
covering about 5 acres,
approximately 17 km,
north of Almeria

Off
again on a “Mystery Coach trip” full of anticipation...... A
beautiful day and we headed south towards Almeria turning inland
just before we reached the city.......
|
 |

  |
  |
|
After
about an hour we stopped for coffee, which was in itself fun,
as
just before I got served the café had a power cut
so the coffee
machine would not work !

|

Luckily
after a few minutes
back it came and we were
all able to refresh
ourselves.....
|
|
|
|
|
We had been handed a
schedule for the day ...
and we were off
to visit
LOS MILLARES
which is a Chalcolithic
prehistoric town covering about 5 acres,
approximately 17 km,
north of Almeria.

It is one of the most important archaeological sites of European
prehistory, a settlement of 1,000 people with numerous outlying
forts, a cemetery with tombs and a complex defence system
composed of 15 bunkers and four stretches of wall. |
They had a culture with highly developed skills, and were
involved with the making of tools and weapons in copper.
|
|
|
On
arriving at the site, there was one small visitor centre and a
car park......
and
then, for some, the realisation that you would have to walk a
fair distance to go and view the excavated sites......
|
Maggie
and I of course being keen walkers had no problem and thoroughly
enjoyed the experience.

There are a number of web sites if anyone would like to find out
more.

After a
couple of hours, everyone got back on the coach
and were quite
relieved to get out of
the sun as it was getting quite hot......

|
|
|
We set
off and after driving through some spectacular scenery we
arrived at
LUCAINENA DE LAS TORRES
... a beautiful white pueblo up
in the mountains.
|
 |
Every
street was bedecked with flowers
as they were having a fiesta at
the weekend.
and it was a delight to walk round.

We all
enjoyed a lovely lunch ... |

and
eventually,
after time to enjoy the pueblo,
we set off home
along another scenic route.

|
It was
a great day out
and as always we looked forward to the next ones..
