Copenhagen  ...Wednesday 7th June 2007 ...

 This wonderful Capital city ..

this promised to be an exciting day -

and after docking at Kalundborg

we left the ship early ...

ready to see the sights !

After travelling from Kalundborg for about 2 hours we arrived here in Copenhagen mid morning -

it was very very hot - about 29° and so we were glad the coach had good air conditioning !!!

This is the old Nyhavn harbour

where Hans Andersen lived at one time

The whole area is very beautiful;

full of coloured houses and is a big tourist attraction

Old Nyhavn harbour

Our  tour guide, Avril,  was wonderful, and showed us as much of the City of Copenhagen as we could wish;

there was a public transport problem that day, so lots of people out in cars -

so it took us a long time to get around...

here are some of the many City Views    (click any pic to enlarge)

We stopped for lunch early, about 11.30 a.m.,

at a lovely restaurant called Copenhagen Corner

This is on a very busy corner ...

and avoiding the traffic was difficult!

As you can see there are  impressive

buildings all around

Copenhagen Corner was a lovely place and soon after this photograph was taken all the other coaches on our trip arrived  . so it was good we had got seated! as then it was full to bursting with visitors - all enjoying a traditional buffet put on by the proprietors

After lunch we boarded the coach again for more sightseeing

as can be seen here

This is an old, decorative telephone kiosk!

They are no longer in use for their original purpose

 and now have a new lease of life as refreshment kiosks -

and are very attractive

No prizes for guessing what this famous

landmark is - no not me !

...in the background is

The Little Mermaid ...

and it is as lovely as you hope it will be

as we left the mermaid and drove on

this shop appeared in view

and it is very very old

full of hand crafted work

it is a famous landmark

.

The next part of our trip was our favourite;

the waterfront tour by boat -

departing from the  old fish quay

we again saw many previously seen sights

from a different angle - cooler,

more romantic

and very impressive ...

check out the wonderful views below ...

[just click to see a bigger pic]

and on our return we

were privileged to see

the only remaining

fish seller left in

Copenhagen

and sadly drove out of the City through the old part on our way back to the Saga Ruby

this took in some lovely countryside

and all in all it had been a spectacular

day out in Copenhagen ...
