BLACKTOFT VILLAGE ...
BLACKTOFT itself is a pretty, single street, riverside village.
The church, St Clements, is the only one of that rare dedication north of the Humber - open and well worth a visit.
The Old Schoolroom next door is a stop in the Trans Pennine Trail, a welcome spot for visitors doing self service refreshments combined with a honesty bookshop. And looking at the visitor books, it is amazing how far afield visitors come from to this remote corner of the East Riding (Latvia and Australia to name but two!) There is a good pub and a famous jetty and mooring point for ships heading for Goole, and the village is rich in history.
***** NOTE: - Also click Blacktoft Sands for info on one of the RSPB's most important wetlands in the country - even rare bitterns can be seen there...
BUT don't go to Blacktoft Village hoping to get to Blacktoft Sands, as this is on the other side of the Humber, and 30 miles away by road!
