OUR REGULAR NEWS FEATURE FROM SUNNY SPAIN

MARCH 2009

March began with two of our friends from the UK arriving for the week at their nearby holiday home.

Sod’s law prevailed and far from a week of Spanish sunshine, they had a week of dismal British style weather!

[Would you believe that on the day of their return to the UK the weather changed and we had 18 days of glorious sunshine?

[Back to the BBQ! ]

Unfortunately the weather took a turn for the worse during the final week and so the vegetables I had bought on our local market were entirely inappropriate – who wants coleslaw in the rain!

WILDFLOWERS

One noticeable effect of the damp start to the month followed by the hot sunny weather was that the gardens and the roadsides etc. all burst into blossom, the down side of which has been a distinctly high level of pollen.

Walks around Almeria

Wild Boar are, in theory, quite protected in Spain. They cannot be hunted without a licence and the meat cannot be sold in a butcher’s shop. However as always there are ways around it. Noticing that a local entrepreneur seemed to have a ready supply of wild boar, a local friend spoke to him and said that if he had any wild boar available he would be interested.

Lo and behold, within a few days the man told John that he had some wild boar for him  ...

The result of this being that John now has a freezer full of wild boar

...instead of the joint he expected!

As promised I have now added a bit more about Almeria on a special page..
