APRIL NEWSLETTER

Well we have breezed through April, and I mean that most sincerely folks, for April is often a somewhat windy month, as the peninsula heats up while the sea is comparatively cool-  thus creating offshore winds.

Unfortunately the winds from the centre come over the High Sierra which still has snow and are thus on the cool side...

Come November the situation is reversed with the sea warm and the land cooling down so the winds are likely to come from the opposite direction.

Summer, however,  is definitely on its way...

...and a distinct change is noticeable in the sartorial elegance of the Spaniards for example flip flops are once more come into the fore -

...and the old ladies are often getting dressed before mid day  ...

...for in winter they do their shopping etc in a housecoat and furry slippers!

The end of the month saw

the Festival of San Marco (click)

with the usual Spanish competition between villages to make the loudest noise from their pyrotechnics

...whilst in an attempt to compete with this the young men race through the narrow streets on their little motorbikes, (silencers removed)

making as much noise as possible in order to “impress” the giggling señoritas.

The turn of the month saw a few days heavy rain which although annoying is very much needed.

Having said that cold water down the neck is decidedly unpleasant but that is how Spanish property is built, at least in this area, for when the rain comes it comes with such a vengeance that drains and guttering cannot cope.  The pragmatic Spanish solution as you might expect is don’t build any drains and don’t put any guttering on the roofs.

On the positive side the garden has enjoyed the drink
